KU Big Read Book Club Week 5: Growing Fashion Sense

In our shared book, Nnenna is turning seventeen and exploring different clothing as she grows into adulthood. Joanie and Nnenna highlight how important fashion can be in getting to know yourself and how it changes and grows alongside you. We are joined today by Co-Founder and Creative Director of designer brand Akinn, Wykidd Song to discuss the fashion industry and how fashion changes over time in different areas of the world. Wykidd is joined by Tony Bedall, Head of Kingston's Department of Fashion and Dr Katherine Appleford, whose research interests straddle Sociology, Cultural Studies and Fashion. We will explore how fashion and clothing are indicative of teenage – and adult – self-expression and identity.
